GDS Celebrates Award-Winning Lighting Project at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées, Paris

We are delighted to announce that our lighting and driver solutions for the renovation of the iconic Théâtre des Champs Élysées have contributed to this project being honoured with the Heritage Lighting Design Award by the LIT Lighting Design Awards 2025. LIT Lighting Design Awards 2025

Bringing Heritage to Life

The project, led by design firm Projetscénie (with lead designer Yann Jourdan) in collaboration with architect-heritage specialists BLP RRC Architecture et Patrimoine, re-illumines the theatre’s original Art Deco features while introducing a dynamic lighting “shield of light” that enhances both architecture and performance space. The GDS technology adopted to bring this vision to life includes an array of custom RGBW and White only profiles, and our hugely powerful Drive Hub system.

Why the Award Matters

The Jury highlighted how the installation:

  • Provides “a more organic rendering depending on the seat in the audience” seeing symmetry and purity from the stalls, gilded detailing from the balcony.
  • Uses the dome/glass roof form to reflect and diffuse illumination, making unseen architectural details now visible.
  • Turns the dome itself into a scenographic object, a “luminous artwork” that changes with each production.
  • Demonstrates a strong sustainability approach: modular repairable installation, recycling of obsolete equipment, energy-efficient fixtures, low-energy electronics, lightweight cabling and smart lighting scenarios to avoid unnecessary consumption.

Being associated with such a landmark venue, and this respected international award reinforces our commitment to excellence in heritage lighting projects. Validating the collaborative approach, we take with designers, architects and clients to deliver more than a lighting solution. An installation with architectural, experiential, and operational value.

We’d like to thank the design team at Projetscénie, the client at Théâtre des Champs Élysées, our man in France M. Xavier Baron, and all our internal staff who made this possible, from specification through production, installation support and commissioning.

We remain committed to delivering lighting solutions that respect heritage, respond to contemporary needs and embody sustainable principles. At the core of this pursuit, is our Drive Hub System.
